"No other states in the country has sales tax on chicken. In Kerala, the sales tax imposed on chicken is 13.5 per cent," P K Kunhon, Association President, said.
They would resort to an indefinite strike and stop selling from February 6, he told reporters here.
Officials had also admitted that high sales tax imposed in the state was the reason for the illegal transportation of chicken and tax evasion at the checkposts,he said.
He asked government to abolish the sales tax to save the industry. Thousands of people are directly and indirectly depending on this business, he said.
