Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today offered his support to his Punjab counterpart Parkash Singh Badal to resolve common issues with dialogue for the benefit of people.
Khattar, who was addressing a gathering at the 350th foundation day celebrations of Sri Anandpur Sahib here, said that earlier Haryana was a part of Punjab.
"After the inception of Haryana as a separate state (in 1966), we are like elder and younger brothers and the people of both states have cordial relations," he said in the presence of Badal and other dignitaries including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP chief Amit Shah, among others.
Khattar said there were some common issues between both the states which need to be addressed for benefit of people.
"This will strengthen brotherhood and accelerate the pace of development of both the states," he said.
While paying reverence to the holy land of Sri Anandpur Sahib on behalf of people of Haryana, Khattar said that Sikh community has enormous history of supreme sacrifices for the country.
"The supreme sacrifices of Guru Tegh Bahadur began from this historical land which cannot be forgotten. Once our country had the status of universal leader, but a time came when we were enslaved by foreign forces. Such activities were stopped by sacrifices of great leaders of Sikh community including Guru Tegh Bahdaur," he said.
He highlighted life of Guru Tegh Bahadur who travelled from Anandpur Sahib to Delhi to sacrifice his life for freedom of religion and the right of people.
"The first sign of this wave was in village Badkhalsa in district Sonepat in Haryana," he said.
