A reward of Rs 20,000 had been announced to trace the missing child. The family had lost all hope of finding their child.
A man Rabbu Salam had filed a complaint on February 1, 2011 that his five-year-old son had gone missing, said DCP (Northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla.
"The police team checked the government run child homes located in Delhi and adjoining areas. The team also checked the other child homes being run by NGOs without any success," he said.
On the basis of the five-year-old photograph that the team had, efforts were made to look for the child.
On February 6, the child was located in a private orphanage in Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad. He had been lodged there by UP Police, said the officer.
The child was living with a different name but his description matched to that of the photograph.
"The team found that his parents had shifted back to Bihar. The address provided at the time of lodging the complaint was of a rented accommodation that had been sold three times in the last five years," said Singla.
However, the team managed to find the landlord of the house who provided the Bihar address of his tenants, said the officer.
The mobile number of the child's father was traced and he was called to Delhi and taken to the Sahibabad orphanage where he identified his son, he said.
The child, however, has no recollection of how he was kidnapped and how he reached the orphanage.
Delhi Police are seeking help from UP police to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the child being found there.
