Anirban Lahiri played his best round ever in the United States with a flawless five-under 66 that included three birdies and superb eagle in the third round of in Heritage on PGA Tour Golf Championship, here today.
Lahiri, starting the day at even par for 36 holes, moved to five-under 208 for 54 holes. He moved inside Top-20 at the time of his finish, but would doubtless be pushed down as others complete their round on what seems to be another low-scoring day.
Playing alongside Lahiri, Jason Kokrak also shot a flawless six-under 65 that took him six-under 207.
Coming on the heels of his second round 69, his first round in the 60s, this bogey-free round should be a big morale booster for Lahiri, who is likely to get into all Majors and WGC in the remainder of the year besides events like the PLAYERS Championships.
The leaders, Troy Merritt (12-under), Matt Kuchar (eight-under) and John Merrick (8-under) and Jordan Spieth (7-under) were yet to start.
Lahiri played well in all departments, finding 11 of 14 fairways, 14 of the 18 greens and stayed clear of the bunkers. He did miss a 10-footer for birdie on first and 13-footer for eagle on second, where he did get a birdie.
His best of the day was a 44-foot putt for an eagle on the fifth. On the back nine, he holed a 10-foot birdie on 11th, a 23-footer for birdie on 15th but missed a 10 and half footer and a nine-and-half footer for birdies on 16th and 17th.
All in all it was a fine day.
"The putting has improved but it needs to be more consistent with 10-15 footers," said Lahiri, who played and made the cut at his first Masters last week.
