An estimated two lakh devotees today took a dip in the massive Sri Padmasarovar on the concluding day of the annual Karthika Brahmotsavam festival at Tiruchanur near here.
After conducting celestial bath to the centuries-old idols of the Goddess Padmavathy and Sudarsana Chakra (divine disc) on the banks of Sri Padmavathy Ammavari temple tank on the occasion of Panchami Theertham, priests amid chanting of vedic hymns, immersed the Chakra called Sri Chakrathalwar in the water.
In accordance with tradition, priests and top officials of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, which manages the shrine, brought a silk sari, bangles and other traditional articles from Lord Venkateswara shrine at Tirumala to the Tiruchanur temple this morning, temple sources said.
The nine-day festival began at Tiruchanur on November 15.
A thick blanket of security was thrown over the town and at routes leading to the tank and shrine for the festival.
