Mortal remains of BJP Lok Sabha MP Dileep Singh Bhuria consigned to flames today as the last rites were performed with full state honour at his ancestral village Macchlia near here.
His eldest son Jaswant lit the funeral pyre amid chanting of mantras as hundreds of people bid their last farewell to the departed tribal leader.
Union minister Thawar Chand Gehlot, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state BJP unit chief Nandkumar Singh Chauhan, former Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munde, BJP vice president Prabhat Jha among others paid their last respect to Bhuria.
Mourning the death, Chouhan said at a condolence meeting that a welfare scheme meant for tribals named after Bhuria will be launched after holding talks with his family members.
Chouhan on the occasion recalled that how he used to take advice from Bhuria in the field of tribal welfare and that the leader's death has caused a vacuum in the tribal leadership.
He said Bhuria was a national leader who also thought and worked for his community's welfare.
A prominent tribal face of the BJP, 71-year-old Bhuria passed away after a brief illness at a hospital in Gurgaon yesterday.
Bhuria suffered a heart attack around a fortnight ago during a programme in his Parliamentary constituency Ratlam- Jhabua.
Born on June 19, 1944, Bhuria began his legislative stint in the state in 1972 when he was elected MLA from Petlawad seat in Jhabua district.
Bhuria served as National SC/ST Commission Chairman during the Vajpayee government.
