The NCP on Tuesday condemned the police action against farmers marching towards Delhi.
The action brought to the fore the "violent" face of the BJP even as the country celebrated 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a champion of non-violence, the party said.
"The BJP government's violent face stands exposed following the lathi-charge on farmers. We condemn the action," NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said in a statement.
Instead of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan", the Narendra Modi government's slogan was "Mar Jawan, Mar Kisaan", he said.
Farmers marching towards Delhi as part of the Bharatiya Kisan Union's (BKU) protest call over demands ranging from farm loan waiver to reduction in fuel prices were stopped at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border Tuesday with police using water cannons to disperse them.
