A Lawyer's body today condemned the the amendments proposed by the Rajasthan government with regard to the labour laws saying it was an attempt "to take away the job security and rights of the workers."
The Indian Association of Lawyers (IAL) in a statement said that the proposed amendments in labour laws by the state government will make way for the practice of "hire and fire".
According to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, an organisation cannot retrench more than 100 employees without permission of the state government. The Rajasthan cabinet has proposed to increase the number to 300 employees.
"These amendments are sought to be made in the garb of creating conducive atmosphere for growth in the manufacturing sector so as to create more jobs.
"In reality it is only a facade to give employers the right to take action against the workers and resort to the practice of hire and fire," Vice President of IAL B K Pal said in the statement.
