AITA Coaches Committee chairman Suman Kapur said in a statement that Leander, who had won his eighth men's doubles Grand Slam title at the US Open last month, will be honoured along with his father Vece, a doctor in sports medicine, who have been with the Indian Davis Cup teams.
"A decision has been taken to felicitate a few Indian greats who have served Indian tennis selflessly. One of India's greatest sportsperson who continues to make the country proud, Leander Paes would be felicitated," AITA Coaches Committee chairman Suman Kapur said in a statement.
The felicitation will be held during AITA's seventh National Coaches Conference at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) Complex here Dec 19-22.
Leander has won six mixed doubles Grand Slam titles and finished as runner up in numerous other Grand Slam finals. He is the oldest man to have won a grand slam.
The former captain of the Indian Davis Cup team, Leander completed the career grand slam in men's doubles after winning the Australian Open in 2012.
Leander's father, Vece is a former hockey player, who was part of the bronze medal winning Indian team at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
