Left organisations Monday took out a march from Ramlila Maidan to Parliament Street demanding a fully funded common education system and an increase in budget allocation for education.
The march saw a gathering of students from various parts of the country.
Former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar said the country needs to unite against terror forces and tell them that they cannot break the country.
"It is a sad thing that those in power have a terrorist mindset. It is a result of this mindset that there is an attempt to burn the country in the fire of hatred. Ex-servicemen, farmer, students and all the other sections of society have all faced the wrath of the government for raising their voice," Kumar said.
Other demands included implementation of the Bhagat Singh National Employment Guarantee Act (BNEGA), better implementation of existing reservations in both government and private institutions, immediate disbursement of scholarships, protection of the federal character of education, an end to its communalisation, and an end to gender-based atrocities in education.
