Left to play important role in new alliance after LS polls:CPI

Opposing both Congress-led UPA and BJP-led NDA, CPI today claimed a new alliance government could come to power after Lok Sabha elections where the role of left parties will be important.
Congress and BJP got less than 50 per cent of the total votes in the country, which meant that the remaining electorate was against the two parties, said CPI general secretary Sudhakar Reddy in a meeting of the party's state council.
Based on these votes, secular parties can form their government, he said adding, the Left parties are not in favour of an unprincipled group in the name of opposing Congress or BJP.

Whatever form the front takes, will be based on socio-economic policy and non-aligned foreign policy, Reddy said and added, the alliance will only take shape after the Lok Sabha polls.
