The moves come amid an atypical situation at the Delhi Secretariat where two home secretaries have been functioning out of the same premises.
Dharam Pal is scheduled to attend a month-long training programme at Duke University in the US from June 21.
According to sources in the Delhi government, the Lt governor's office has written to the Department of Personnel and Training citing the urgent need for the officer to be here.
"Pal may be exempted from going to the United States after LG Secretariat wrote the letter to DoPT," they said.
Pal was was transferred by the Arvind Kejriwal government from the post of home secretary for appointing Joint Commissioner in Delhi Police M K Meena as the new head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, a move negated by the Centre.
Kejriwal has given the charge of home secretary to his Secretary Rajendra Kumar.
