Light showers in north; Punjab, Haryana complain of humidity

Rainfall was patchy across northern India today with only light and medium showers reported in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh while Delhi saw trace showers in a few parts of the city.
Hot and humid conditions prevailed in the national capital as the maximum temperature settled three degrees above normal at 37.2 degrees Celsius.
The minimum, too, was recorded one notch above normal at 28.2 degrees.
Humidity in air was between 87 and 55 per cent with residents complaining of another sweaty day in Delhi.
However, MeT officials hinted at some respite in the coming 24 hours with a forecast for generally cloudy skies accompanied by rainfall and thundershowers.

In Rajasthan, monsoonal activity in eastern parts of the state saw Shahabad in Baran district recording 80mm rainfall.

Light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places in Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Bikaner districts in the last 24 hours, a MeT department official said.
Light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers also occurred at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh today.
Saharanpur recorded 60mm rain followed by Maharani (30mm) and Varanasi (20mm).
Major rivers in the state continued to flow above the danger mark at a number of places, according to a Central Water Commission report.
Sharda river was flowing above danger mark at Paliakalan in Lakhimpur district while the Ghaghra had breached the red mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia district.

The mercury, meanwhile, hovered around normal levels in Punjab and Haryana where humid conditions caused great discomfort to the people.
Humidity levels across the two neighbouring states fluctuated between 80 and 90 per cent.
In Haryana, Ambala and Hisar recorded highs of 35.4 and 39.2 degrees, respectively, while Narnaul settled at 35.5 degrees.
In Punjab, while Patiala settled at 36 degrees, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded maximums of 36.8 and 36 degrees, respectively.
