The accused, Sarnam Singh Gujjar, who is the president of Banmore Krishi Upaj Mandi, was arrested and produced in a local court that sent him to jail.
"Soon after constable Dharmendra Chauhan was mowed down by a moving truck laden with illegal sand (when he tried to stop it) at Noorbad area near here on April 4, a search operation had been launched," police inspector Ajay Chanana said.
"During the search operation, police had found that the sand that was illegally mined from Chambal Ghariyal Sanctuary was stocked at the residence of Gujjar," he said.
Police had received a tip-off that the accused was chairing a meeting of the Mandi today. "As soon as the meeting got over and Gujjar came out, he was nabbed," Chanana said.
The accused was then produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Rakesh Goyal, who dismissed his bail plea and sent him to jail.
