LS speaker Sumitra Mahajan to inaugurate CPA conference tomorrow

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will inaugurate the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) conference in Patna tomorrow.
The CPA will also be addressed by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi, the Lok Sabha secretariat said in an official statement.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav will also attend the opening ceremony of the sixth conference of the CPA's India region, it said.
The two-day conference will mainly deliberate on parliaments role in the development agenda and legislature and judiciary two important pillars of democracy.
BJP leader and Chairman of the Lok Sabha's Estimates Committee Joshi along with Prasad will deliver the key note addresses at the two plenaries, respectively, according to the statement.
The CPA is composed of over 180 branches formed in legislatures of commonwealth countries enjoying parliamentary democracy. All the CPA branches are geographically grouped into nine commonwealth regions.
The India region of the CPA consists of the India Union Branch (Parliament of India) and 31 state / union territories branches.
The conference is likely to be attended by about 100 Delegates including Chairperson, CPA Executive Committee, Emilia M Lifaka.
