Ludhiana civic polls: Nomination of 6 candidates rejected

Nomination papers of six candidates were rejected today during the scrutiny of the total 754 nominations filed for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections.
Now, a total of 747 candidates are in the fray for the elections as one of the candidates from ward number-41 had filed his nomination twice.
Nomination papers of Sarinder Pal from ward-21, Paramjeet Kaur from ward-37, (both Independents), Jatinder Singh from ward-38 (Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Party), Harshpreet Kaur from ward-52, Sharanpreet Kaur from ward-55 and Santosh Kalra from ward-58 (all three from the BJP) have been rejected during the scrutiny, an official release said.
Meanwhile, all four nominations filed for the by-elections to the ward number-17 in Jagraon Municipal Council and three nominations received for the ward number-5 in Payal Municipal Council have been found valid.

District electoral officer Pradeep Kumar Agrawal and Additional District Electoral Officer Neeru Katyal said anyone can withdraw his or her nominations and election symbols would also be allotted to the independent candidates.
In Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, around 10.50 lakh voters would cast their votes to elect their representatives in 95 wards. As many as 5.67 lakh voters are male, 4.82 lakh are female while 23 belong to the third gender.
The polling would be held on February 24 and the results would be announced on February 27.
The voting would for the ward number-17 in Jagraon Municipal Council and ward number-5 in Payal Municipal Council would be held on February 24 and counting would also be held on the same day.
