Thorough a blend of theatre and multimedia, noted actor Lushin Dubey highlighted the issue of child mortality in the country invoking satire accompanied with music excerpts in a solo theatre production.
The production "I Will Not Cry", enacted by Dubey has been directed and scripted by Arvind Gaur and aims to bring to to light the sad truth of millions of needless, preventable deaths of children in the country.
"The challenge is to make such a dark subject, entertaining and at the same time realise the sensitivity of such a vexatious issue. The play is virtual and real, based on case studies and incorporates real characters", says Dubey, who has been a theatre artist for over 20 years.
The NGO Save The Children brought here last evening the production, which has already done 13 shows in cities across the country. The performance had premiered in the capital city in the year 2011.
A newsroom-based discussion is the major plot of the play where Lushin, who enacts several roles alone, hopes to reveal the bitter truth of child mortality and bring in light different faces of the vexatious issue of child mortality.
The play is based of on different case studies- one of them being that of a brother who loses her sister to child mortality.
"The play contains a news discussion part where I will be playing in different roles as an activist, a socialite, an anchor and a politician," says Dubey.
According to a research by Save the Children, India has unofficially become the world's child death capital, with over 5,000 children dying in the country every day.
The production has previously travelled to other parts of the country including Mumbai and Kolkata and has enthralled the audience with the powerful performance earlier.
