A senior office-bearer of the Volleyball Federation of India has moved the Madras High Court seeking a CBI probe into what he alleged embezzlement of Centre's allowance to players competing in international tournaments by a top federation official.
When the petition by VFI Associate Secretary K Nandakumar came up for hearing, Justice G Jayachandran directed him to file an additional affidavit mentioning the source of information about the allegations made by him.
The petitioner sought a direction to the CBI deputy superintendent of police, Anti-Corruption Branch-Chennai, to register a case based on his complaint lodged in June last year.
According to him, each player was given a daily allowance of USD 100 for their sustenance when they represent the country in international tournaments by the Union Sports Ministry. It was routed through the respective national sports federation.
Nandakumar alleged an internal investigation and scrutiny in the VFI had 'revealed' that federation secretary general in connivance with a former secretary general and chief executive officer had given only USD 25 to the volleyball players.
He further charged that they had transferred the embezzled amount into a sham account and siphoned off the money meant for players and officials and enriched themselves by falsifying and manipulating the federation accounts.
Nandakumar submitted that though it had been more than a year since he lodged the complaint, no case had been registered.
