A debt-ridden elderly farmer allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra's Latur district, a police official said Monday.
Suryabhan alias Baburao Jadhav, 65, hanged himself from a tree on Saturday at Hippalgaon village in Ahmedpur taluka of Latur, located around 480 km from here, he said.
Jadhav had taken loan from a district bank and also from some private money lenders but was unable to repay it, he said, adding that the farmer was upset because of this.
According to the police official, Jadhav also had a scuffle with his son-in-law a day before he ended his life.
An inquiry was on to ascertain the exact reason behind his extreme step, the official added.
