Maha govt mulls formulation of Internal Security Act

Maharashtra Government is considering formulation of Internal Security Act that seeks to fix responsibilities of public places on their authorities as well as private, government and semi-government establishments.
"The aim is not to burden the police department and make them available for crime investigation and maintaining law and order," Principal Secretary (Home) B K Upadhyay told PTI.
Modelled on the lines of Public Safety Act in Andhra Pradesh, the proposed Internal Security Act will make it mandatory for the authorities of public places, private, government and semi-government establishments, malls, hotels, irrigation dams, electricity towers to ensure security of these places.

"New establishments will need to have security plan as part of their Detailed Project Report (DPR). Similarly, provision will be made for the existing establishments as well," he said adding that the need is to assist the police in maintaining law and order rather than just depending on them.
"All the stakeholders will be made accountable for the law and order," he said.
He said the proposed Act is in the formulation stage and discussions will be held to make it a comprehensive law adding that punishment/penalty will be levied against those who do not comply with the security provision.
