Maha lagging in providing quality ambulance service

Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray today said Maharashtra should better its record of providing emergency ambulance services to patients in time as it is lagging behind 17 other states in making available such well-equipped vehicles.
He also asked the state government to expedite the work to ensure that well-equipped ambulances reach patients in time.
"I have given a few suggestions to the health minister (Deepak Sawant) to make the ambulance services of the state better. Maharashtra is lagging behind 17 other states in terms of providing quality ambulance facilities and it is imperative that we improve the quality of services," he said.

He was speaking to reporters here after meeting Sawant.
"If there is an accident on a highway, ambulances do reach patients on time. But they lack the infrastructure needed to save a patient's life. This needs to change," he said.
Sawant said the government has identified lapses that occur while providing quality treatment to patients and said they will be rectified within 15 days.
He said the government is mulling over providing ambulance services via boats, where critical time can be saved while shifting a patient to a hospital from the spot of accident.
"We will soon start this service on a pilot basis. If we are successful, we will roll out the services immediately. States like Andhra Pradesh are already providing such services," Sawant said.
