Crediting the Congress with bringing stability to Maharashtra's economy, former state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan urged the people to vote for development during the October 15 Assembly polls.
"Congress took over the reins of power 15 years back when there was an unstable economy and it transformed the state into one of the most stable economies," Chavan said while addressing poll rallies yesterday at Nandgaon tehsil and tribal-dominated Harsul town in Nashik district.
Drawing attention of the people towards various schemes like 'Suvarna Jayanti scholarship scheme' for tribal students, he said during the 15-year governance, Congress took up the development of tribals in the state.
However, he said there needs a lot more to be done, which he assured his party will do, if voted to power.
Highlighting the steps taken by his erstwhile government for the farming community, he said as many as 13 small irrigation projects and lift irrigation projects such as Gadadvan and Boripada were sanctioned for Maharashtra, on the lines of irrigation projects in Punjab.
Following the fragmentation of various political alliances in the state ahead of the elections, Chavan said he feared horse-trading due to tussle for power in the state among all parties.
Stressing that his party has always been secular in its acts, he appealed to the people of the district to vote for Congress candidates during the polls.
