Theatre personality Mahabanoo ModyKotwal, best known for her play 'Vagina Monologues', is all set to star alongside her son Kaizaad Kotwal in an American film on Mother Teresa.
The film directed by William Reid is titled 'The Letters' and traces Mother Teresa's journey in India. Kaizaad, who was last seen in filmmaker Sudhir Mishra's 'Inkaar', will play the role of Archbishop of Calcutta.
"It is very rare that mother and son get to share the screen together. I feel really happy that I am starring in this wonderful film with my son. The film has been shot in Goa," Mahabanoo told PTI in an interview.
Kaizaad has worked on over 200 theatre productions and films. He is a producer, director, actor, writer and designer. He won an Emmy Award for Art Direction in 1996.
He was also a professor of theatre, media studies and film at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
"He stayed in the US for 24 years and he came back to India three years ago. I think he is also doing another film with Anil Kapoor," Mahabanoo said on the sidelines of IFFI, where her film 'The Coffinmaker' is being screened.
'The Letters' will hit theatres in the US next year in March. Mahabanoo says she loved working in the film, which also stars Swedish actor Max von Sydow and Juliet Stevenson, who played Keira Knightley's mother in 'Bend It Like Beckham'.
"Working in this film made me realize the difference between our filmmaking and theirs. I could see the effort that was put behind each role, which is rare in Indian films," Mahabanoo said.
