Maharashtra govt didn't identify unregistered builders: CAG

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)has rapped the Maharashtra government for not carrying out surveys to identify unregistered buildersand developers in Mumbai who had crossed the thresholdlimit for registration.

In its auditon assessment of dealers/builders/ developers under the VAT Act,the CAG, in a report, said cross-verification of data in respect of 99 builders and developers obtainedfrom the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation revealed that 53 of them were not registered with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department.

The report was tabled in the assembly on Wednesday.

"No survey has been carried out to identify unregisteredbuilders and developers who had crossed the threshold limit for registration," the report said.

On refunds under the GST, it said there were 2,069 applications for grants of refunds involving Rs 1113.48 crore which were pending finalisation till October 2018.
