A talathi is a village level revenue official who processes information such as land ownership, lease agreement, cropping pattern, remarks over particular land and earmarking of land for certain purposes.
"The state government has decided to accept the Anup Kumar Committee's recommendation to create 3,084 new posts of talathis," Chandrakant Patil, Revenue Minister, told reporters here.
An association of talathis has been demanding increasing their posts to deal with a surge in revenue services and their speedy delivery. The talathis also have to perform other duties such as undertaking surveys related to drought, scarcity and other natural calamities, among others.
After new recruitments, the number of talathis in the state would go up to 15,411.
Though the number of talathis is going to be hiked, they will actually join revenue services only by January 2018, said a senior officer from Revenue department.
Konkan division will get the maximum 744 new talathis followed by Nashik (689), Aurangabad (685), Nagpur (478), Pune (463) and Amravati divisions (25), Patil added.
