Maharashtra cabinet cleared a proposal in this regard at a meeting here today, education minister Vinod Tawde said.
Many people are deprived of mainstream education as they can't go to regular schools or drop out. Hence the government decided to set up Maharashtra State Open School Board which will provide opportunity to adult workers, housewives, etc., to receive education, Tawde said.
The new Board will function under the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The syllabus of the Open School Board would be different from the regular syllabus of the Secondary Education Board, he said.
The state education commissioner will be the chairman of the board.
With the Open School Board coming into existence, night schools will not be closed, Tawde assured.
Students who are completing their education through night schools can continue, the minister said.
