Women's Desk at some police stations here were not only in a shambles but also lacked technical and legal skills to tackle crime against women, an NGO has claimed.
Mahila and Jansangathan annexed with People's Union for Civil Liberty (PUCL), has also made a representation in this regard which was submitted to the Jaipur Police Commissioner.
"Every Mahila Desk in Jaipur-South's 13 police stations showed callousness and utter carelessness in dealing crime cases against women", Renuka Pamecha, its convener and noted women social activist, told reporters here.
Regardless of a minimum two to three women constable in each police stations, there were men cops holding just the charge of Mahila Desk, she said, quoting a survey by 48 trainee students of law colleges and university across the country.
Infrastructure and other facilities like toilets, separate office room for complainants did not exist, she claimed.
Most of these stations were not keeping any record of either plaints or FIRs, she further alleged.
In their representation to the Commissioner, PUCL has demanded that these Mahila Desks be strengthened at least with three women cops, a separate room, and legal training to the staff besides appointment of a Protection Officer in each police station, she added.
