Malayalam not acceptable to Malayalees regrettable: CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today regretted that Malayalam language which attracted people from other nations was not acceptable to Malayalees and the state Public Service Commission.
Addressing a function after conferring the "Jeevan-Gundart" award to Jnanapeetham award winner M T Vasudevan Nair here, he asked how Malayalam which was acceptable to Dr Herman Gundert, a German missionary, has become unacceptable to Malayalees in the state and elsewhere.
Even the Public Service Commission of the state was finding it inconvenient to raise examination questions in Malayalam, he said.
The award was instituted in the name of German missionary and writer Herman Gundart.

"Gundart's contribution to Malayalam language is laudable", he said.
Vasudevan Nair has achieved a lot in developing his works in accordance with the changing times by specifying the point that man not only has 'a stomach' but also 'a mind', on the renowned writer of Malayalam language.

Speaking at another function presenting the social service Excellence award of the Khasi Nalakath Mohammed Koya Foundation to businessman P C Tahir, the Chief Minister flayed the priavte hospitals for charging huge fees for organ transplantation and other surgeries.
"Different hospitals are charging different fees for treatment of the same disease. Cost of kidney transplantation comes around anywhere between Rs two lakh and 12 lakh in private hospitals", Vijayan said.

"In such a scenario, NGOs which are helping people to have free dialysis which are doing life saving services are looked at as a role model for the entire humanity", he added.
