She was addressing a gathering on the concluding ceremony of the 150the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at the Ramakrishna Mission and Math at Belur in Howrah district.
Describing Swami Vivekananda as an "youth icon", Banerjee said his teachings and ideals have spread throughout the world by the Ramakrishna Mission and Math.
The state government has dedicated two chairs in memory of the saint in the Calcutta University and the Presidency University, she said.
Banerjee also talked about various aspects of Swamiji's life to the 12,000 odd people who had come from all over the world on the occasion of the concluding ceremony.
