A 34-year-old man, who duped a man on the pretext of helping him land a government job, was arrested in Lutyens' Delhi, the police said today.
Earlier this month, Mridul Chakraborty approached police with a complaint that he was duped.
The complainant alleged that he read an advertisement in a newspaper regarding the requirement of a liaison officer in a government/semi-government project in the Northeast, the police said.
Chakraborty called on the number mentioned in the advertisement and spoke to one Yogesh Kumar who claimed to be a section officer in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, they added.
Chakraborty met Kumar outside Shastri Bhawan. The accused told the complainant that the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has opened a tender for data collection in connection with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
For its campaign, the ministry needed a consultancy company and liaison officer in the Northeast.
The accused took Rs 5.20 lakh from Chakraborty and gave a fake appointment letter in the name of Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the police said.
Chakraborty later approached police.
During investigation, the police team analysed the call details of the accused person's mobile number. Yesterday, the accused, identified as Amit Kumar, was nabbed from near the Central Secretariat metro station, they added.
