Police have arrested 28-year-old Shaharyar Alam, a native of West Bengal, from near New Ashok Nagar Metro Station on a tip-off. Police have recovered 11 birth certificates, and a laptop and printer which were used in commission of the crime.
Alam was also involved in four other criminal cases including that of rape, cheating and forgery, police claimed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi district) Ajay Kumar said that on January 8, they came to know that a person named Sahil was involved in making fake birth certificates and laid a trap.
During interrogation, Alam disclosed that he used to arrange birth certificates, which were issued to other persons, from MCD office with the help of his one associate.
He would erase the particulars of the real applicant from the certificates and type the fake details of his clients, police said.
