Police have recovered gold jewellery worth Rs two crore from Murugan, who was picked up from Tirupathi, City Police Commissioner A K Vishwanathan told reporters here.
On July 16, gold jewellery weighing about 7.5 kg was stolen from a hotel where two Mumbai-based merchants were staying and the police had set up eight teams to track down the culprit.
The merchants were in the city to supply the jewellery to local jewellers, he said.
Modus operandi of Murugan, hailing from Chromepet in Chennai, was that he would take the locks of the rooms and make duplicate keys.
After vacating the room he would return the next day and decamp with valuables.
Murugan who fled with the jewellery to Andhra Pradesh had sold about 200 grams of ornaments.
The arrested had already been jailed for theft in Kollam in Kerala, Vishwanathan said.
