Suspecting infidelity, a man allegedly attacked and critically injured his 30-year-old wife in outer Delhi's Rohini area today.
The woman, who was staying at her sister's place for past few days after heated arguments with her husband, was hit several times with a brick and a brass bell used for worship.
The woman has been identified as Phoolo Devi, wife of Kamal Kishore (36). The incident took place around 8.20 AM when Kishore had gone to talk to his wife.
"Kishore used to doubt her wife's character and suspected her of having an affair with another man. The couple were having heated arguments for over a month. Due to this, the woman had left their Aman Vihar residence and went to live with her sister in Sector 21 Rohini, along with her four kids," said a senior police official.
Kishore had gone to Rohini residence to talk to his wife. When he reached, she was alone at the house as her sister and her husband had left for work.
"Kishore and Phoolo Devi again had an argument and he locked the children in one room. He then dragged his wife to the backyard of the house and hit her using a small bell used by the family in their house temple for worship.
"After the lady received several cuts all over her body including face and head, he used a brick to further deface her. When she fell unconscious bleeding profusely, he fled," the official said.
The police said that when Kishore was trying to run away, the victim's sister's son returned home and saw Kishore fleeing away.
He entered the house and found his aunt in critical condition after which he immediately raised an alarm and the public got hold of the accused. He was then handed over to the police.
"The woman was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi hospital and was referred to Safdarjung hospital from there. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused," police said.
