The deceased was identified as Subrata Roy, an employee of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited.
He was a resident of Ranaghat Paikpara in Nadia.
Local sources said, Roy came to Shantipur from Ranaghat to join one of his relative's funeral ceremony at Shantipur Cremation Ghat. After the cremation, he went to river to take a bath and drowned.
