Principal District and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Srivastav found Durga Soren of Bedakudar village in Seraikela- Kharswan district guilty and awarded capital punishment to him.
According to prosecution, Durga took the girl and her two friends including a boy of his own village, to a place saying they would play. He, however, sent the friends home after which he raped and murdered the girl.
The girl's father said in the FIR that he had seen Durga taking three children, but his daughter did not return home. However, when asked, Durga said he did not know anything. Her body was found in a paddy field later.
