Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau awarded the jail term to Delhi resident Raju for murdering Shankar, who was a hindrance to the illicit relationship between him and Renu, wife of the deceased.
The court also sent Renu, 32, to four years rigorous imprisonment for the offence of destruction of evidence.
"The aggravating factors are that murder of Shankar was committed without any instigation from his side only because convict Raju wanted Shankar out of his way as he was having an illicit relations with Renu, the wife of Shankar, which was being objected to by Shankar and his family members.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.02 lakh and Rs 2,000 on Raju and Renu respectively and ordered that out of the fine amount, Rs one lakh be given as compensation to Shankar's father.
According to the prosecution, on December 20, 2010, both Raju and Renu had conspired and killed Shankar by firing at him with a country-made pistol near Nirankari Samagam ground in Burari here as he was a hindrance to their illicit relationship.
Thereafter, they had thrown Shankar's body in an empty drain in a village in Haryana, it said.
