A special court here on Thursday sentenced a man to three years in jail for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in suburban Chembur four years ago.
Judge C A Nathani of the special POCSO (Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act) court held the 29-year-old labourer Kanhaiya Bhosale guilty under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code, public prosecutor Geeta Sharma said.
As per the prosecution, on the day of the incident, Bhosale, who was the victim's next door neighbour, had come to her house asking about her mother's whereabouts.
After gaining entry into her house, he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The victim then raised an alarm, following which the neighbours caught hold of Bhosale and handed him over to police.
