A man was arrested today for allegedly duping a bank employee of Rs 1.5 lakh from the cash counter by impersonating as a customer here, police said.
One Islam went to a bank, under Nakud police station, to withdraw Rs 1.5 lakh. As he had some important engagement at another bank, he asked the employee at the cash counter to keep the money with him for the time being, Additional Superintendent of Police (Dehat) Jagdish Sharma said.
An hour later when Islam returned, the bank employee said that he has already handed over the money to him following which Islam created a furore at the branch.
Upon receiving information about this, police reached the spot and seized footage from CCTV cameras to verify the statements of both the victim and the bank employee.
While culling through the CCTV footages today, it surfaced that a third person took the money from the bank employee sometime after Islam left.
The accused has been identified as Aslam, a resident of Ambhaeta, who was arrested and the amount recovered from him, they said.
During interrogation, Aslam said that he had retrieved Rs 1.5 lakh from the bank employee by impersonating as Islam, police said, adding an FIR has been registered in the case.
