A 20-year-old man was arrested and a juvenile apprehended for allegedly killing a security officer of Azadpur's Agricultural Produce Market Committee earlier this month, the police said today.
The duo had allegedly vowed to kill Sumer Singh as he had slapped the juvenile and prevented him from entering the Azadpur APMC from the wrong side, they said.
In the early hours of September 13, Singh was shot in the head by unidentified persons while he was on duty at the APMC.
During investigation, the police questioned security guards, hawkers and other stakeholders of Azadpur Mandi and the CCTV footage from the market was scrutinised and two persons were identified, the police said.
The two persons had entered the Mandi from the Peer Baba Gate and were seen running from the spot after the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said.
The pictures of the suspects were circulated among police personnel. A beat constable identified an accused as Love alias Labbu, a resident of K-Block of Jahangirpuri, and nabbed him today, the officer said.
Love had changed his appearance and hairstyle. He had even changed his dressing style so that he could not be identified, said another officer privy to the probe.
He thought police will not be able to catch him, officials said.
Love told police that a juvenile was also involved, who was subsequently apprehended.
The juvenile's father works as a roadside vendor in Azadpur Fruit Mandi and sells eatery items.
Since the juvenile's father was unwell, the minor came to the market to sell eatery items on a cycle rickshaw on September 12, said the officer.
Singh did not allow him to enter the Mandi since there was a heavy traffic jam and he was entering from wrong side, the DCP said, adding it triggered a heated argument between Singh and the juvenile.
Singh slapped the juvenile and ousted him from the Mandi, he added.
The juvenile shared the incident with his friend Love the same evening and they decided to seek revenge.
On September 13, they reached the Mandi on a motorcycle and the juvenile shot Singh from behind with a countrymade pistol arranged by Love, the DCP said.
