While his son died on the spot, 25-year-old Kamaljit Singh succumbed at the hospital yesterday, police said.
Kamaljit's father told police that his son was upset over his trouble marriage.
The father alleged Kamaljit took the extreme step as he was continuously harassed by his wife and her family members.
He took his son to the field yesterday, where he gave poisonous substance to him and later ended his life by consuming the same.
Based on the complaint filed by Kamaljit's father, police have lodged an FIR againt the wife of the deceased and her three family members.
