Man run over, police officer sent to jail

A man died after being run over by a police vehicle at Bhojerhat in South 24 Parganas today, after which a police officer was jailed.
The 41-year-old man, a resident of Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district, was run over and killed when the assistant sub-inspector of police was learning to drive the vehicle.
Irate locals blocked roads in the area in protest against the incident, police said.
The ASI, Srijan Bhattacharya, was arrested and produced before the court at Baruipur which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.
