A court here Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man to death for raping and killing a three-year-old girl on New Year Day in 2017.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Kamal Nayan Pandey also handed Rohit Rai imprisonment from seven years to life term for abduction, sexual assault and causing disappearance of evidence.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the man, assistant public prosecutor Dinesh Kumar Ojha said.
Rai, who hails from Jabijore village under Sareiyahaat block of Dumka district, had lured the three-year-old with a chocolate and throttled her to death after committing the crime.
The police recovered the body on January 3 from a field in the village, and the man was arrested from Banka in Bihar the following day.
