A 30-year-old man was shot at by four men near Najafgarh area in south-west Delhi today, the attack suspected to be fallout of intra-gang enmity, police said.
The incident was reported at around 11.40 AM when the injured person, identified as Ranjeet, a resident of Mitraun village, was heading towards Najafgarh and his motorbike was intercepted by a car on Dhansa Road, police said.
Four persons came out of the car and opened fire at Ranjeet, who was on a two-wheeler. He tried to flee the spot, when a bullet hit him. The gang fled the spot immediately, police added.
Ranjeet later turned out to be a member of southwest Delhi-based Naveen Khati gang. The attackers are suspected to be members of a gang headed by Khati's associate-turned-enemy, Ravinder Bholu.
After the attack, locals called up the police control room and Ranjeet was rushed to a hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical, police said.
"The incident is suspected to be a fallout of the murder of Ravinder Bholu's uncle, allegedly executed by Khati's men in March," said a police official.
Ranjeet shifted to Rohtak after the murder incident and had come to Delhi recently. Bholu's gang is suspected to have kept an eye over him and allegedly attacked him today when he was on his way to a market, the official said.
CCTV footage have been obtained and the police have some leads as to the identities of the assailants.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered and investigation is underway, police added.
On November 24, the police had arrested four alleged shooters of Naveen Khati gang who were allegedly about to gun down a member of rival gang, who was about to appear as a witness in a case against Khati at Dwarka court.
Naveen Khati, meanwhile, is lodged in Tihar jail, police added.
