A man was taken to police custody today for allegedly cheating a software engineer by marrying her after "concealing" his first marriage and collecting Rs 37 lakh from her kin.
Prima facie it has been ascertained that Mohemmed Ahmed Ali, a flower businessman, "concealed" his previous marriage and posed as a owner of several properties in different localities including the posh Banjara Hills area to woo the woman, police said.
"During the wedding yesterday, some relatives of the bride raised doubts saying that Ali is already married and questioned whether or not he had divorced his first wife," said DCP (South Zone) V Satyanarayana.
The girl later lodged a complaint with Rein Bazar police accusing Ali of taking Rs 37 lakh from her family members and also hiding the fact that he was already married.
As per the complaint, Ali made the woman believe that he owns several properties in different localities including Banjara Hills and was a worker of a political party here, Satyanarayana said.
"Ali has been taken into custody and is being questioned. During preliminary investigation it has come to light that he had not given divorce to his first wife and went ahead to marry for the second time," the DCP said.
