The deceased has been identified as Deep Singh Sodha, they said.
Police said Sodha was posted as sub-inspector in the 39th battalion of Sashastra Sima Bal on India-Nepal border. He was today found dead under suspicious circumstances.
Sodha's body was found lying on the jungle route between Kajaria and Bankati under Gaurifanta Kotwali area, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Asrey Singh said.
There were multiple injury marks on Sodha's face, he added.
An FIR has been lodged and investigations have begun. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death, he said.
