Maneka Gandhi to inaugurate two-day workshop at Panipat

A two-day national workshop at Panipat will be inaugurated tomorrow by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, a spokesperson said today.
As many as 135 participants from various states including chief ministers, ministers and union government secretaries will participate in the national thematic workshop on 'Best Practices for Women and Child Development'.
"The inaugural session will be chaired by Maneka Gandhi, whereas Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development V S Oberoi will give the welcome address," a spokesperson of Haryana Women and Child Development Department said here.
According to the spokesman, the opening remarks would be given by Khattar while Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje would also address the workshop.
Women and Child Development ministers of various states will take part in the two-day workshop.
The sessions, spread over two days, will be based on topics such as nutrition, early childhood care and education and combating trafficking.
Discussion on topic of women empowerment would be chaired by Chairperson of National Commission for Women, Lalitha Kumaramangalam.
Discussions on violence against women and girls will be chaired by Justice (retd) Usha Mehra and co-chaired by Indira Jaising.
Another session would be based on community initiatives for 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' programme, in which discussions would be held on 'Improving the Child Sex Ratio', which will be chaired by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda.
During the past three days, union and state ministers have flagged off awareness tours from different parts of Haryana, as part of the Centre's ambitious 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme' to improve the child sex ratio, which will be launched from Panipat by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22.
The 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign would be implemented in 100 districts of the country, out of which 12 districts of Haryana with the lowest sex ratio have been selected.
The districts in Haryana are Mahendergarh, Jhajjar, Rewari, Sonepat, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Karnal, Yamuna Nagar, Kaithal, Bhiwani and Panipat.
The spokesman said that in addition to Modi and Khattar, among other dignitaries who will be present in Panipat on Thursday include Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, union ministers including those for Women and Child Development, Human Resource Development, Health and Information and Broadcasting.
On Thursday, Modi will also release a postage stamp and will also address the people followed by administering of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' pledge.
