Kerala Women's Commission has directed the state police chief to take serious action against the culprits in the alleged manhandling of two women journalists by a section of lawyers at the Vigilance court here on October 14, its Chairperson K C Rosakutty said today.
Talking to reporters here, Rosakutty said steps would also be taken to withdraw the 'false' cases filed against the women journalists by a section of lawyers accusing them of causing simple hurt.
Four journalists, including women, were allegedly dragged out of the court when they went to cover the hearing of a private petition against former industries Minister Jayarajan on October 14.
Five lawyers were arrested on a complaint by the two women journalists and later released on bail.
Though Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had recently said there was no bar on journalists reporting court proceedings and called the action of a section of lawyers obstructing reporting as unacceptable, mediapersons were not being allowed in courts in the state.
