Maoist activities under effective check in T'gana: Top cop

Left-wing extremist activities in Telangana are under effective check and barring a few cases there is no mass scale recruitment, a top police official said today.
"It is sporadic...And there is no mass scale recruitment (by Maoists)," state Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Sharma told reporters at the annual press conference here.
He was reacting to queries on alleged exchange of fire between Maoists and police in Warangal district in September this year in which two cadres, Shruthi (an M Tech student) and Vidyasagar Reddy, were killed and another incident in June, wherein a 19-year-old dropout student Vivek K was among three alleged Maoists shot dead in an "encounter" by police on Telangana-Chhattisgarh border in Khammam.

There are as many as 156 underground cadre from Telangana who are operating in other states, he said.
Six incidents of exchange of fire took place this year in which five Maoists were killed, 166 ultras were arrested and 12 leaders had surrendered, the DGP said.
"Due to firm police action, LWE activities in the state are under effective check. Extremist crime also declined during this year," Sharma added.

A total of 92,685 cognisable crimes were reported (upto November 2015) as compared to 93,439 cases during the same period last year registering a decrease of 0.81 per cent.
However, there is a marginal increase of rape cases, with 1,020 cases reported in 2015 as against 893 in 2014. 11,794 cases of crime against women were registered in 2014 which rose to 12,422 this year, the DGP said.

There is a marginal decrease in cyber crimes this year
with 634 registered in 2015 as compared to 678 in 2014, Sharma said.
There is also an increase in road accidents in 2015. 18,534 cases were reported which resulted in the death of 6,495 people and injuries to 20,922 as against 17,339 cases in which 6,259 persons were killed and 19,241 were injured.
On IT initiatives, the DGP said mobile applications like Hawk Eye, lost articles app, stolen vehicle tracking system, Hydpol, work distribution application have helped in increasing police efficiency and delivery of services to people.
