The 45-year-old "Be Without You" hitmaker, who was married to her former manager, Isaacs, for 12 years, said things always don't work out the way we expect, reported Hello magazine.
"Ms Blige is saddened to say it is true that she has filed for divorce, saying sometimes things don't work out how we hoped they would. But there is a divine plan and a reason for everything," Blige's spokesperson Karynne Tencer confirmed.
The songstress has reportedly been cited irreconcilable differences as the grounds for their divorce.
"She thanks and appreciates her fans for their support and love through this very difficult, emotional time," the rep added.
