Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said it would not be appropriate at this stage to make public a magisterial probe report on the Mookhep police firing on September 24 last.
"Making the report public at this stage may not be appropriate as this may hamper the lines of action to be initiated thereafter," Sangma told the Assembly while replying to a call attention motion moved by Hills State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP) legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit.
"The government at present is in the process of examining the findings and recommendations of the report," he said.
"Besides, the report had recommended further enquiry into a number of questions which the report itself has not addressed," he said.
The chief minister said the government had sanctioned ex-gratia payment of Rs three lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 1.5 lakh to those injured.
Two persons including a woman were killed and seven others injured after securitymen fired when a mob attacked senior police officers and torched police vehicles during a road blockade on the NH-44 on September 24 last against NGT ban on coal mining in the state.
